The events industry has a waste problem. Single-use stands, disposable graphics, and mountains of discarded materials are all too common. At Aboveline, we believe there is a better way.
Sustainability is not a trend for us. It is a core part of how we design, build, and manage exhibition stands. Here is how we approach it.
1. Designing for Reuse
The most sustainable stand is one that does not end up in a skip after a single event. We design with longevity in mind, creating modular structures and durable components that can be reconfigured, updated, and reused over time.
This approach reduces waste and saves money. Clients who exhibit regularly often find that a well-designed reusable stand delivers better value than building new each time. We have worked with some clients, like Ageas, for over seven years, evolving their stands season after season rather than replacing them.
2. Our Tree Planting Partnership
We plant one native British tree for every project we complete through our Tree Planting Partnership. But we go further.
For each tree pledged, we offset an additional tonne of carbon through internationally verified credits, ensuring immediate environmental impact while your tree continues sequestering carbon for decades to come. All trees are native broadleaf species planted at schools and biodiversity sites across our region.
Each customer receives a personalised certificate celebrating the tree planted in their project’s honour. It is a small but meaningful part of how we give back.
3. Material Choices that Matter
We are thoughtful about the materials we use. Where possible, we choose sustainable, recyclable, or reclaimed options. We also avoid unnecessary materials, designing efficiently to minimise waste at source.
When selecting suppliers, we favour those who share our commitment to responsible sourcing and production. Our Sustainable Procurement policy formalises this commitment.
4. In-House Manufacturing
Building in our own workshop in Cheshire gives us control over materials, processes, and waste. We can ensure offcuts are recycled, energy use is monitored, and nothing leaves the building unless it has to.
It also means fewer transport miles. Components are built centrally and delivered directly to site, reducing the carbon footprint of logistics.
5. Storage and Stand Management
We offer secure storage for stands between events. This makes reuse practical and convenient. Stands are catalogued, maintained, and ready to go whenever they are needed.
Storage also opens the door to incremental updates. Graphics can be refreshed, elements swapped out, and layouts adapted without replacing the entire stand.
6. Formal Policies and Accountability
Our commitment to sustainability is backed by formal policies:
• Carbon Footprint Policy
• Environmental Sustainability Policy
• Sustainable Procurement Policy
• Waste Management Policy
We are also proud members of ESSA, the Event Supplier and Services Association, and committed to continuous improvement across energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, and green design.
7. Helping Clients Meet Their Goals
Many of our clients have their own sustainability targets. We work with them to align stand design with these commitments, whether that means specific material choices, waste reduction targets, or carbon reporting.
Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. We are constantly learning, adapting, and looking for new ways to do better.
